Let's get the new school year started!

Our first Roanoke City Central Council PTA meeting is Wed, Sept 8 at 10:00am in the Media Center of the Central Administration Building. Local unit Presidents are highly encouraged to attend all Central Council PTA meetings along with their Central Council Rep.

THERE WILL BE A REFLECTIONS SEMINAR FOLLOWING THE MEETING ON SEPT 8TH AT 11:30AM. We've got two new ladies handling Reflections this year that can't wait to help your school have a wonderful Reflections contest. Come to find out the theme, rules & entry submission deadlines.

So, what does the Roanoke City Central Council PTA stand for?

Our purpose is to strengthen the local PTA units, coordinate the effort of these units, to provide leadership training, and to broaden and deepen public understanding of home/school cooperation.

The goals of the RCCPTA are:

·       To promote the welfare of children and youth in home, school, place of worship and community.

·       To raise the standards of home life.

·       To secure adequate laws for the care and protection of children and youth.

·       To bring into closer relation the home and school, that parents and teachers may cooperate intelligently in the education of children and youth.

·       To develop between educators and the general public such united efforts as will secure for all children and youth the highest advantages of physical, mental, social, and spiritual education.

Increase parent involvement in schools through better communication and coordination:

·       Educate the parents and the community about the importance of parent involvement

·      Monitor evidence of increased parent involvement 

·       Share creative methods to increase membership and parent involvement.

Strengthen local units with leadership training:

·      Sponsor Leadership Forums for training purposes 

·       Appoint a Central Council Local Unit Training Coordinator to assist local units

·       Encourage and document schools participating in the Virginia PTA Convention each year

·       Encourage and document attendance at the District Leadership Training Workshop

·       Encourage and document the number of schools participating in the Virginia PTA Leadership Conference

Coordinate the efforts of local units by enhancing communication among local units, the council, school administration and the state:

·      Develop and publish a RCCPTA yearbook which contains essential PTA information 

·      Develop effective communication among units through a Central Council website 

·      Hold an annual President's Reception for all principals, PTA presidents and Central Council reps 

·      Publish in August, an annual newsletter to keep PTA presidents informed of new developments and important deadlines 

·       Hold an annual RCCPTA banquet and meeting in May

Provide in-depth background information on current issues related to the lives and education of children and youth:

·      Identify resources to local units 

·      Promote the use of the Virginia PTA's Bulletin by each school 

·       Promote the use of the Virginia PTA's website and the National PTA website

Broaden and deepen public understanding of the home/school partnership:

·       Support the national media campaign

·      Create and maintain an active Advocacy Committee to address issues raised by two or more local units 

·      Understand, promote and support the PTA legislative process 

·       Support Character Education in the public school system
